Sewan grass (Lasiurus scindicus Henrard) is one of the important grass species of Thar Desert ecosystem. It is a perennial grass that can live up to 20 years with just one or two showers of rain, and survive 4-5 years without water. That is the real grassroot capacity of this grass, which makes it unique in all sense to survive. Sewan grass forms small to moderate bushy thickets in sandy soil. Commonly used for pasture, hay and fodder for livestock. This valuable grazing pasture is of outmost importance in remote areas where annual rainfall is below 200 mm.

The ERDS Foundation is working with local farmers to develop a agro-pasture-GIB friendly model to allow native biodiversity to survive. In this, uncultivated or un-cultivatable farm lands are maintained as a wild patch. This wild patch is being used to grow Sewan grass and other associated plants. Our field team is regularly visiting these farms and constant monitoring is being done to document the changes in the farm biodiversity.
Our proud member and progressive Organic Farmer Dr. G. R. Vaishnav ji is the flag bearer of this idea. He himself converted a large unused area in his farm as Sewan Grass germplasm bank and also teaching others as how to propagate fast Sewan grass directly from the old clumps during monsoon season. Please watch him as how passionately he is describing it.

Sellers should be aware that not all gold buyers accept gemstone-embedded items. If a piece of jewelry has additional gemstones, it's essential to communicate this to the buyer for an accurate assessment.
